Vintage RC Helicopters - Hirobo Freya Hirobo sst-eagle Freya Named after the Goddess of Love and Beauty from Norse mythology who wore a unique Brisingamen golden necklace; twin sister to Sceadu. Designated the sst-eagle FREYA as the model was based on the sst-Eagle however, the large number of significant changes carried out effectively resulted in a new model. The Freya is therefore considered separately to the SST-EAGLE as both models would have further developed and so run in parallel to each other. In order to differentiate between the two, the FREYA had small lettering for the sst eagle designation as against Capital letters for the actual SST-EAGLE model.
Hirobo took the best of the WC Eagle and refined the design, components and a variety of adjustments for full-on 3D aerobatics. To help absorb hard landings, Hirobo took the four piece stacked WC Eagle 2 EX main frame and made it out of high impact engineering plastic that delivered durability and controlled weight being designed to absorb and flex, but not break. Based on the winning WC99 frame design, the updated frame design utilised the DTDS main gear conversion (Driven Tail Drive System) found on the standard Freya mechanics. Included in the new main frame package was a two piece full enclosure fan shroud, carbon collective pitch levers, EX machined aluminium X levers, machined aluminium elevator assembly, CNC machined main and second gears, all metal swashplate, and plenty of platforms to mount all types of radio gear. Additionally, the machine utilised a simplified Freya collective system. An all metal EX tail case was included as standard equipment to support all tail gear box shafts and bearings. Carbon fibre tail pitch system mounts replaced the metal brackets ensuring rigidity and alignment through all aspects of use. The tail pitch slider and lever were Freya items so tail control was precise and resistant to "slop". A triple bearing tail set up for the blade grips was also used along with Carbon Fibre sealed tip 90mm tail blades in order to handle the high tail loads and keep the tail where any pilot wants it. Light weight hollow FRP WC style tail fins smoothed out to match the rest of the bodywork. The head was the same as previously used on the WC 99, SSR-V. The fifth generation head was wider to maximize rotor disk diameter without having to run excessively long rotor blades. All components were made of machined aluminium and anodized blue with larger diameter thrust bearings ensuring collective pitch inputs were precise and smooth under load. A shorter centre hub was also used to enhance stability and a machined aluminium swashplate and washout assembly ensured all control inputs are transferred accurately to the head To enhance the aerodynamics a new lower landing gear assembly was used plus an FRP Cabin with a Carbon Fibre windshield.
